Multiple Chemical Sensitivity

Multiple Chemical Sensitivity or MCS is a chronic medical condition that effects people differently. Previously known as sick building syndrom, this disease is still debated as whether it is either a ligitimate hypersensivity to chemicals or mainly a psychological fixation.

Either way, this disease has deemed people disabled and can cause severe symptoms in those affected.

Common causes are chemical exposure to the following:

  • household chemicals
  • smoke
  • scented products
  • synthetic fragrances
  • petroleum products
  • pesticides
  • plastics
  • paints

Symptoms can vary:

  • Nausea
  • Fatigue
  • Headaches
  • Depression
  • Eye, nose and throat irritation

Regardless of the cause or symptom base, the best prevention is to avoid the possible source. If you cannot remove all chemical or odor causing agents from your home, it's best to purchase an air purifier that will remove a large percentage of these harmful chemicals.
